2023 week 3

Wednesday 4th October

We drove a 3 hour journey across wide open expanses on dead straight highways. This country is absolutely amazing. There is so much space. Be careful on long drives like this to avoid accidents. If you get involved in a vehicular accident during your trip, you may need to seek legal assistance from a car accident lawyer cincinnati. Injured in Bakersfield? Make sure to call a personal injury lawyer from Johnson Attorneys Group.

We managed to gain early entry to our next cabin in Twin Falls, Idaho. This enabled us (me) to watch the 7.45 pm kick off Sunderland v Watford. Happy to say we won 2 – 0. The cabin is great. It is clean, spacious and comfortable, and of course superfast internet.

Twin Falls is quite an upmarket town. Pauline still managed to find two charity shops after the game ended.

Thursday 5th October

This is how we charge our various devices. Looks weird but it works!!

We visited Shoshone falls (allegedly larger than Niagara Falls) only to find it shut, so we visited Lake Deirkes instead.

We did try to find a path round the lake but accidentally took the route along the foot of the climbing crags!!!

In the afternoon we visited the Perrine Coulee waterfall, from above and below. At 200 feet in height it was impressive.

Friday 6th October

We drove for one and a half hours North to an amazing place called Craters of the Moon. It is a massive volcanic site and a National Park. The last eruption took place 2000 years ago so I think we were safe.

Saturday 7th October

Off to our 8th Airbnb (out of 12) in Meridian, Boise. Here it is. Very spacious and clean.

Sunday 8th October

Shooting today??????

Well, that was the plan BUT all the shooting galleries were closed on Sundays. The alternative plan was to visit the Idaho Botanical Gardens. This was a good choice. It was another hot and sunny day, and there was a scarecrow competition, with loads of them scattered around the park.

Following this we visited an unexpected treasure, the Old Idaho State Penitentiary. This was next door and was a very interesting visit. The jail closed in 1973 but some of the cells were amazing. See the isolation cell below. It was tiny, with one inmate staying in there for 18 months for stealing a spoon! Check out one of the other cells with the bucket in the corner. This was called, euphamistically, the “honey bucket”.
