The boat has to be “blacked” every 2 to 3 years. This involved taking it out of the water, jet washing, painting with bitumen. It was carried out by Calcutt Boats in August 2021, but not very well!! By Spring 2023 rust was coming through on the waterline.

Decided to hire the dry dock at Braunston for 5 days (5th to 9th June) in order to black the bottom with Teamac Hull Blacking. I ended up using 3 tins, totalling 15 litres.
Before on day one
The process was
Day 1
- Jet wash everything
- Brush with a solution of bleach and hot water
- Grind the rust out with an angle grinder and a twisted wire brush
- treat all rust with Fertan rust converter

- First coat of Teamac using a fence brush to get in all the pitting (6.5 hours)
Day 3
- Roller a second coat
Day 4
- Roller a third coat and fit grills to the bow thruster tube.
Day 5
- Wash the boat and leave
