Texas 2019 week 4

Thursday 16th May

Now in Dodge City, home of Boot Hill, Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp etc etc. The whole place smells of cows!!

Friday 17th May

A day in Dodge City. We visited the Boot Hill museum which was very interesting. Loads of artefacts and information on residents such as Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and Doc Holiday. By all accounts Dodge was a wild town in the late 1800s. Have a read of the placards.

….Later that night …. Tornado warnings! We had alerts on our phones and sirens everywhere then our hosts collected us to take us to the safe room!!!

Saturday 18th May

WE travelled from Dodge city to our new Airbnb in Oklahoma City. Spent a good evening drinking wine with our friendly hosts.

Sunday 19th May

Today we visited the Cowboy and heritage Museum. Another very interesting museum celebrating the wild west and also Hollywood’s version of it.

After the visit we went for lunch – or at least we tried!!

First: McDonalds was chaos. Not many people in but we ordered and 15 minutes later they told us one of the items was not available!! Refund!!!

Second: Subway: Ordered a foot long and two coffees. He started making the foot long and then told us they don’t do coffee!!! “but it’s on the menu?” Unbelievable – refund!!

Third: Sonic. We drove in trying to park to go in. No! Its purely a drive in – no restaurant!!

Fourth – we finally go to a Fried Chicken restaurant which was ok.

Monday 20th May

Today we travelled to Fort Worth, our 12th and last accommodation. We travelled amid severe weather warnings of thunderstorms and tornadoes!!

Update – we made it without any rain or tornado. However, when we arrived and checked the TV where we came from had Tornados!! Right place at the right time!! This is where we are staing, a lovely TexMex Casita in Fort Worth.

Tuesday 21st May

Off to the historic Stockyards area. We visited on a Tuesday which meant there was nothing on except the twice daily cattle drive through the historic Stockyard district. The Rodeo is on at weekends as are many other attractions.

Wednesday 22nd May

Today is our last day on this holiday. We decided to visit a slightly different museum to the ones we have visited so far. This museum was all about the American Civil War and Texas’s role in it. It was very good though slightly glossed over the root cause of the war. There were loads of artefacts inclu
