Monday 14th September
A long long drive (10 hours) from Memphis to the Smokey Mountains beyond Chattanooga and through 4 states. Took 10 hours but mostly easy driving. 2 fill ups on the way (£10 each) and some real Southern Fried Chicken at a petrol station. Mostly the roads are straight and dual carriageway with a massive grass central reservation – easy driving despite the length of the journey. Injured in a crash? A trusted car accident attorney is ready to fight for your justice.
We are now in a cabin in the mountains and its brilliant – loads of room, 2 toilets, dishwasher, washing machine etc. Fantastic, now spreadin out. More pics tomorrow.
Tuesday 15th September
At last, we are in our remote cabin in the Smokey Mountains. The cabin has everything and is one of the cheapest we have stayed in. 3 bedrooms, 2 showers, 3 balconies, and more importantly now – a washer and drier plus dishwasher. Now chilling, recovering from yesterday’s journey.
Wednesday 16th September
Today we chilled in our cabin and then went on a walk up Brasstown Bald mountain (1458m). There is a shuttle bus to take you to the summit but we chose to walk (not far really). The views from the top were great.
Thursday 17th September
I didn’t want to do it – but she insisted!!!
Friday 18th September
We left our lovely cabin in North Georgia. First a fill up – it took £10 unbelievable!
Our satnav said 6 hours to Greenville but that’s before they shut the 185 freeway North of Montgomery. We sat in a traffic jam for 1.5 hours before being diverted off the freeway. Nightmare. Good job we had aircon as it was 89F outside (32C). Our 6 hour journey eventually took us 8 hours.
We had pre-booked a motel half way to New Orleans based on reviews. What a result. Comfort Inn we love you. At a cost of £56 for one night for two of us we got loads. Large room with King Bed, sofa, TV, fridge, wifi, coffee maker etc. Also breakfast and a pool (with the best swimming pool ceiling design). We should learn from this in the UK ie value for money in hotels.
Lucy’s birthday today – 28 years old. Cant believe its that long ago.
