Week2 2024

Wednesday 11th September

… on to Toledo, a 5 hour drive from the falls and only an hour from the Motown Museum in Detroit.

The drive wasn’t one of the easiest. Mainly dual carriageway toll roads. But we made it, and the house is great. Tomorrow we are off the the Motown Museum in Detroit.

Thursday 12th September

We drove for an hour up a very busy highway to Detroit and a visit to the Motown Museum. I love a visit to a historic recording studio and this was no different. The studio (A) itself was virtually untouched, together with a piano dating from 1877. Paul McCartney paid for half of its restoration apparently. Also Michael Jackson’s hat and glove were on display. Note the worn out floor from foot tapping by the engineers!

Next we visited the Great Lakes museum, which included a tour round a very large ship (built in 1911). Who knew that the great lakes contain 85% of the world’s fresh water!

Friday 13th September

… off to a place called Paw Paw. After a 2.5 hour ride we arrived in our next Airbnb (5 out of 11). It’s lovely and right on a lake, complete with boats for us to use. We are here fir 3 nights and intend to chill out here.

Saturday 14th September

Aiming to watch Sunderland v Plymouth Argyle on live stream at 10am Michigan time. ….. We lost bahhhh!!!

We took the pedalo out today and pedalled around the island. It was extremely hot and tiring!

Sunday 15th September

…another day of rest (ish)

We decided to visit the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. It was interesting, mixing up all sorts of aircraft and aliens and screen aliens.

I met Robbie the Robot who scared me to death when he appeared in the film Forbidden Planet. I was 7!

There was also a piece of moon rock (sealed up of course)

The evening was great. David and Dona took us out on their boat on the lake. We enjoyed a cruise around the lake and enjoyed a lovely sunset.

off further South now to Xenia, near Cincinnati and Columbus. Also Springfield, apparently where they eat cats and dogs!!
